1144
A free machining, manganese, medium carbon steel
1144 is a steel with increased mechanical properties, more than the typical lower carbon steels. This grade of steel machines at 83% of 1212 with excellent as machined finish.
The induction hardens satisfactorily, but the sulfides can contribute to quench cracking.
This grade can be difficult to weld.
