1117
A resulfurized steel with good machinability and surface finish
1117 is a strong steel, but it is not as good as standard screw stocks. Its case hardening characteristics are superior and it develops an excellent core. It brazes satisfactorily but has no more fair than welding properties.
This is a more ductile steel than others of lower manganese content and it cold forms well. The machinability is rated at 89% of 1212.
Statistics
Shape

Grade
1117
Tolerance
Meets cold finished carbon steel bar manufacturing tolerances
Application
More important parts where the combined properties of good machining and superior case hardening are required, but where some machinability and finish (compared with standard screw stocks) can be sacrificed.
